Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) mounted passive water sampling system for autonomous environmental DNA collection

Participants:

This project develops a system to collect and passively filter water based environmental DNA samples autonomously from a UAV. This enables precise sample collection from remote areas and mapping of biodiversity data on species distributions over large areas and time.

Research partner:

Ecosystems and Landscape Evolution Lab ETH, an international research team with diverse scientific expertise and backgrounds, connected by the goal to understand biodiversity. They study the mechanisms that shape biodiversity patterns across spatial and temporal scales – in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems -such as mountain ranges and tropical reefs.

Implementation partner:

INVERTO EARTH AGbrings together years of experiences in drone engineering and complex drone operations. They have worked with local communities in some of the most challenging environments across all continents.
